MSNBC host calls out Adam Schiff for fundraising off of Trump indictment

MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell appears to be calling out Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif. Friday’s fundraiser for the news that former President Trump has been impeached.

The Manhattan grand jury voted Trump accusation on Thursday, making him the first former or current US president ever to be impeached. Trump has been accused of providing silent payments ahead of the 2016 presidential election, a case that could have ramifications for his candidacy in 2024.

Mitchell spoke about the highly controversial legal case, noting that the partisan divide around Trump has led many to question the legality of the case.

“Has this criminal allegation, the indictment, really become too political? Donald Trump raises, you know, a fortune, over a million dollars — a million and a half or more — just on the threat of indictment,” Mitchell said.

She told Schiff, “A lot of politicians, you know, do that. You’re raising money for it.”

Schiff defended himself and the legality of the case by saying it was a question of accountability.

“Look, I think this is definitely going to be a political issue in terms of defending the rule of law on the one hand, in terms of I think subverting the rule of law on the other, but the most important point for me is this is an emphasis on the fact that no one should be above The law to which we are all held accountable, and that this person has escaped accountability for years and years.” “And yeah, so I’ll talk about it. And other people will talk about it.”

He followed this by claiming that this case was an example of defending “our democracy” and criticized it Republican opposition.

“I’m going to resist what Kevin McCarthy and Jim Jordan are trying to do in the House of Representatives by stepping in and trying to stop this investigation or impede it or distort it in some way,” he said. “This is an ongoing and important part of the work I’ve been doing to defend our democracy.”
