Toyota She recently released a cryptic teaser on her official Instagram account, hinting at the upcoming launch of a new truck in the US Although not much teaser can be deduced, she confirms that the vehicle is indeed a truck, and rumors suggest that it could be the new Tacoma.
The current version of the Toyota Tacoma has been on the market since 2015 and is slated for a major overhaul. Patent graphics filed in Brazil have already given us a glimpse of the upcoming design, revealing that the new Tacoma will draw inspiration from the larger Tundra that hit the market in 2022.
Patent drawings show the new Tacoma will have a similarly square nose and small slats below the headlights. The grille shape is more contoured than the one found on the Tundra, but it still maintains the same rugged look. Additionally, both trucks will have fog lights integrated into the bumper, but the Tacoma features triangular air intakes in the fender flares that the Tundra doesn’t have.
According to rumors, the new Tacoma will have the same TNGA-F platform as the Tundra and other large Toyota vehicles. This platform will help the Tacoma retain its body-on-frame construction, and it’s expected to be available with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine. Currently used in the Lexus RX 500h and Toyota Crown, this engine can produce up to 366 bhp (371 PS).
This is a significant improvement over the Tacoma’s current powertrain, which features a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with only 159 hp (161 hp) and a 3.5-liter V6 with 278 hp (282 hp), both without a turbo. The new powertrain is expected to deliver better performance and fuel efficiency. It’s also rumored that Toyota will offer a range of TRD tuning goodies to customize the trucks.
In conclusion, Toyota’s new Tacoma promises to be a game-changer in the midsize truck segment. With its revamped design and upgraded powertrain, it’s sure to appeal to truck enthusiasts looking for a rugged and reliable vehicle. While we eagerly await the official launch of the new Tacoma, we can only speculate about what Toyota has in store for us.
