“I’m vehemently against that,” Mara said via NJ.com. “Flexible scheduling because it’s really inconsiderate of the season ticket holders who fill our stadiums every week. People are used to going from Sunday afternoon to Sunday night, but that doesn’t mean they like it.

“This year, we can move to a Monday night, which I think is very inconsiderate of our ticket holders. But showing the game through Thursday night to me is offensive, and I’m very much against that. Luckily it doesn’t get enough.” of votes, but it will likely be reconsidered in May.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell replied to the criticism at his press conference later in the day.

“Listen, there’s no one in that room, or any of our organizations, who doesn’t put our fans first,” Goodell said. “That’s really important. It’s obviously part of what we do to bring our fans the best games. That’s part of what our schedule has always focused on and flexibility has been part of that. We’re very wise about that and we’re very careful about it and looking at all its implications.

“I think we’re a year-and-a-half average. It can vary in any given year. So it’s very important for us to balance out what I would call season ticket holders and in-stadium markets, but we have millions of fans who also watch us on TV. Get to them.” It’s the balance you always strike and make sure we’re doing it right.”
