Gisele FettermanThe wife of Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pennsylvania, has lamented that she has received the brunt of the bullying that has targeted the lawmaker and his family since he campaigned for president in a new personal account.
Fetterman claimed that she was the victim of “inhumane bullying” just like other high profile female figures including Meghan Markle, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.
She declared that, like these women, she was described as the “power-hungry wife”.
In her guest column for Elle Women’s Magazine On Thursday, Fetterman discussed her husband’s political career and the “vicious attacks” that swelled in response to news that Fetterman was hospitalized for depression, having already suffered a stroke during his successful campaign for the US Senate.
Fetterman’s health problems have hung over his political career for nearly a year. Despite his cognitive difficulties after his stroke in 2022, he managed to win election in one of the most important Senate races of the year. However, he struggled to adjust to life in the Senate after taking office this year and was admitted to Walter Reed for depression in February. He is expected to return to normal work in April.
From the moment Jun shared his news, vicious attacks began pouring in. Jun He had a stroke During his Senate campaign, so I already knew how harsh people can be in judging someone’s health and using them as a weapon.”
Fetterman’s wife placed particular emphasis on the attacks she suffered, which she claimed far outnumbered those of her husband. She wrote, “But I will admit, I was surprised to find that the vast majority of the harassment this time around was not directed at John—it was directed at me.”
“They promoted conspiracy theories that I was an ambitious, power-hungry wife, and was secretly plotting to take his seat in the Senate. It was all utterly preposterous,” she wrote.
She said, “I’ve been dealing with some version of this for several years. Once John’s political profile started to grow, I started getting hate mail—ten times more than John ever got.”
Fetterman has ranked herself with the high-profile female celebrities who have been in the spotlight.
“It is the same attacks that have been targeted Meghan MarkleAnd Jada Pinkett Smith and Jill Biden – my obvious contenders for “America’s Worst Wife.” They echo the dehumanizing bullying that women like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama faced decades ago.”
“And they let women take more of the blame, no matter what we do.”
She lamented the “millions of young women” who were taught to absorb criticism based on her experience and the experiences of others.
“Misogyny affects everything they do,” Fetterman wrote. “It spreads in class, at the dinner table, and of course on social media.”
