Kamala Harris declines to comment on Trump indictment – then Zambia’s president weighs in

Vice President Kamala Harris He took on a question on Friday about the indictment against former President Donald Trump — but Zambia’s president chose to think about it.

The couple were asked for their reactions to the news that 2024 Republican presidential nominee charged by a grand jury in Manhattan on Thursday following a years-long investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

“I will not comment on an ongoing criminal case involving the former president,” Harris told the reporter.

However, Hichilema took the question and tried to explain his feelings on the matter in perspective Zambia government.

“President Trump’s indictment – what does that mean for the rule of law? Let’s take the names out of your question,” Hichilema told the reporter. “Let us put what we have decided to do to govern ourselves in an orderly manner. [We] We promulgated our constitutions – the Basic Law. Then, secondary laws and other regulations create a platform or framework around which we either as Americans or as Zambians have agreed to govern ourselves and then to live within those boundaries.”

He continued, “When there is a violation of the law, it doesn’t matter who is involved. I think that’s what the rule of law is all about. This is universal.”

Hichilema went on to compare Trump indictment and the partisan tensions of corruption in his homeland.

“And here, Vice President, we have a scenario now when we are fighting corruption that has taken away resources from children and patients – sometimes names are thrown at it and perceptions that are not entirely appropriate are created,” Hichilema said. “Because transgressions of the law, if you take what the public has, you have offended the law and the name does not matter.”

Trump was indicted as part of an investigation the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office conducted years ago, possibly over hush money payments.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg He was investigating Trump over silent payments prior to the 2016 presidential election.

Those payments include $130,000 to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and $150,000 paid to Former Playboy model Karen McDougal, I learned Fox News Digital.

Make silent money payments to both McDougal and Daniels were disclosed and published by Fox News in 2018. These payments have been investigated by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York chose not to charge Trump in connection with Daniels’ payments in 2019, even when Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen implicated him as part of a plea bargain. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has also dropped its investigation into the matter in 2021.
