Schools deploy AI technology to protect against active shooters

WASHINGTON — While most people look to artificial intelligence, or artificial intelligence, for quick answers to complex problems, an increasing number of people School districts are turning to technology To maintain the safety of students and staff.

A school district in Charles County, Maryland, about an hour from Washington, D.C., is in the process of installing software and hardware that will allow its existing security cameras to detect a potential active shooter.

“This artificial intelligence has the ability to recognize the weapon and evaluate what is happening and How does this person act?said Jason Stoddard, director of safety and security for Charles County Public Schools. The county, through a state grant, is in the process of installing AI weapon detection technology across all of its campuses. And the cameras, which were installed years ago, will now communicate with a third-party monitoring center if a gun is detected.

ZeroEyes, an AI gun detection company based in Pennsylvania, told Fox News that interest in it has seen a surge of interest in recent years following mass shootings on school campuses across the country. The company told FOX that it proudly hires law enforcement experts, the people who cut the front lines, to help schools get faster when reviewing threats.

Technology experts admit that AI products have limitations and won’t detect weapons hidden under coats or in backpacks. In Maryland, school officials said they have A multi-layered plan to deal with security It employs multiple methods to keep students safe.
