Taylor Swift She shares the keys to her success.
Swift took to the stage at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles on Monday night where she shared how she thinks she’s become so successful.
“I am really pleased with this award,” said Swift. “Innovator Award, I didn’t wake up once in the morning and think, ‘You know what I’m going to do today? I’m going to go invent some stuff.'”
“What I did was try to make the right decision for me at the time, whether it had been successfully done before or not,” she said. “I think maybe that’s the key because often in any industry people are looking for precedent, or data that shows this idea is good or feasible.”
Swift continued, “People want an example of something that’s worked before. I think the coolest ideas are the news, the ones that set a new precedent.”
She tackled “switching genres” and “re-recording all her old music” before the audience erupted into applause.
She said, “I really want everyone, especially young people, to know that it was the hundreds or thousands of stupid ideas I had that led me to my good ideas. You have to give yourself permission to fail.”
“I try as hard as I can not to fail because it’s embarrassing, but I give you permission, and you should, too,” Swift said. “Someday someone might think they’re innovators.”
