Twitter removes over 5,000 tweets about radical group’s ‘Trans Day of Vengeance’

Twitter Safety said That the Tweets were removed through automated processes without consideration of context for the sake of efficiency due to the large amount of Tweets.

The news that the Trans Radical Activist Network (“TRAN”) will be holding a #Trans Day of Vengeance on April 1 before the US Supreme Court has sparked outrage from some Twitter users in the wake of the mass shooting by a transgender shooter in Nashville Christian School Monday.

TRAN describes itself as “a network of unapologetic activists fighting for queer liberation”. The extremist group promoted the latest protest last week on Twitter.

“We had to automatically sweep our platform and remove >5,000 tweets/retweets for this poster. We do not support tweets that incite violence regardless of who posts it.” Revenge “doesn’t mean peaceful protest. It’s okay to organize or support peaceful protests,” Ella Irwin tweeted on Wednesday.

Irwin followed up by saying that no accounts sharing the poster were penalized with a “tip” on their account, but that they had merely restricted media access.

“There is no impact on users for tweeting it unless it is retweeted after it has been removed or posted with additional calls for violence/wishes of harm,” she wrote on Twitter.

US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. , claiming this was a “lie” showing a screenshot of her own account being temporarily suspended because she said she was warned about the event. Greene’s account was restored just hours after it was suspended.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Twitter account temporarily suspended for violating the rules

Last month, Twitter rolled out a restriction on “violent speech” that says users may not “threaten, incite, glorify, or express a desire for violence or harm.”

Twitter has acknowledged that its policy may be controversial in some cases when responding to backlash over removed Tweets.

The group that held the event denied that their call for revenge was violent. They also denounced the Nashville shootings.

“We also reject any connection between this horrific event and our own,” the group said in a statement. “Revenge means responding forcefully. We fight false narratives, criminalization and the eradication of our very existence.”

Twitter did not respond to a request for clarification regarding the deleted tweets.
